About

My work begins by not knowing. Not knowing what the outcome will be, the themes; no image in mind. Once I make some elemental, loose marks on the page, an idea begins to stir and a form appears. I like to sculpt the marks until an image is made and the piece can be concluded. The journey from not knowing to knowing is the work.

I am fascinated by the interconnectedness of everything. The way forms can tangle, break and merge and how the journey is the outcome. I believe that interpretation of art belongs not to the artist but to the viewer. The purpose of my work is to be felt, acting as a mirror for the viewer to connect them with their own emotional space in that moment. There is no right answer, no wrong interpretation. Rotate the piece or look again tomorrow and you might feel something else, a new facet of yourself reflected back.

I’d like my work to reflect an inner conflict we all have: freedom vs. control. The perfectionism in our culture limits our freedom to play and create, reducing creative expression and stunting emotional awareness. I am desperate to find perfection yet it was only by letting go and embracing chaos that I found a formula for creative unity. I have finally found balance by bringing together the chaos of mark-making with precise, controlled drawing, letting my subconscious lead the way for the first time.
